There are several images named "example": [[:File:Example.jpg]], [[:File:Example.png]], [[:File:Example.gif]] and [[:File:Example.svg]]. There is also the sound file [[:File:Example.ogg]]. None of these files should be used in articles.

The JPG image is the example inserted when a user clicks the "embedded file" or "picture gallery" buttons in the [[Help:Edit toolbar|edit toolbar]]. Pages (including user pages) with this image left may be actively sought out and fixed. If you need a test image for permanent demonstration purposes, for instance in a template's documentation, then instead use for instance the PNG image or [[:File:Example-serious.jpg|Example-serious.jpg]].
