Reincarnation is a technique where one player plays more than one character in the game consequently. The technique is typical for games covering long period of time when characters live and die.

This technique is often used in games where characters dies and the player wants to continue playing the game as different one. But it can be used as an intended tool to emphasis some aspects of the story as for example the resemblance of characters.

Example

This technique was used in Cien Años de Soledad larp to emphasis the receptiveness of the story, which plays an important role in the mood of the book the game was based on. As the story covers 100 years, there are many characters, which are quite similar to each other and share their fate. Each player played at least two different characters (some of them four), one after the other, designed to point out similarities and differences between them.
