This is a documentation subpage for Template:NARA catalog record. It contains usage information, categories and other content that is not part of the original template page. |
This template is used to generate external links to catalog records at the United States National Archives and Records Administration by Online Public Access (OPA) number. See the NARA OPA page for information on OPA.
Usage
The required parameter is the National Archives identifier. If this is the only parameter specified, the article title is used as the anchor text:
{{NARA catalog record|ID}}
To have the anchor text be something other than the article name, specify the second parameter, as well:
* {{NARA catalog record|ID|Title}}
This can be used when the Wikipedia page name is not the name of the work whose catalog record is desired. This will most often be the case where the article name includes a parenthetical disambiguation.
Examples
UPDATE THIS WITH A RELEVANT EXAMPLE - THIS IS FROM THE LOC TEMPLATE FOR REFERENCE
- Without specifying the title, causing the article name to be used
In the article United States Bill of Rights:
- {{NARA catalog record|1408042}}
will produce:
- Specifying the title, rather than using the article name
In the article United States Bill of Rights :
- {{NARA catalog record|1408042|Bill of Rights}}
will produce:
Note that the examples include the "*" for a bulleted list since this is most likely to be used in an "External links" section.
