This Canadian work is in the public domain in Canada because its copyright has expired for one of the following reasons:

Criteria		PD in Canada if	PD in Canada on 1 January 1996 if
1.	it was subject to Crown copyright	first published before 1974,	first published before 1946, According to Public Works and Government Services Canada / Travaux publics et Services gouvernementaux Canada, Canada has no intention of renewing expired Crown Copyright works in any country, and consequently the URAA does not apply. 2.	it was a photograph created before 1949	created before 1949	created before 1946
3.	it was a photograph created after 1948 — and the copyright was owned by a corporation,	created after 1948—but before 1962	N/A
4.	it was a work by an identifiable author	created by an author who died before 1974 (but unpublished works by authors who died after 1948 but before 1999 will not enter the public domain until 2049),	published by an author who died before 1946
5.	where the creator is unknown	the work was published before 1974, or (if not published) created before 1949.	first published before 1946

As a result of the United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement drafted in 2018, upon its implementation the copyright term for some copyright works may be extended to:

in the case of the life of a natural person, 70 years p.m.a.;
on the basis of other than such life, not less than 75 years p.d., or (if not published within 25 years of creation) not less than 70 years p.r.

if it entered the public domain in Canada prior to 1996, or
when, after that date, its copyright term expires in accordance with U.S. law.
if it was subject to Crown Copyright and published before 1974

Information about the creation date and creator should be provided.

If the image is not in the public domain in the United States, in addition to the license tag for its status in Canada an appropriate fair use license and rationale should be provided, or the image should be proposed for deletion.

If the media is in the public domain in both Canada and the United States, it may be transferred to the Wikimedia Commons.
