It is unclear if this item of currency or official token is currently in circulation. Please update the use of this tag if you have this information.
This restriction tag has been placed because currency designs and images of them may be subject to additional legal restrictions outside of copyright law including laws regarding counterfeiting, which may also apply, particularly when this image is used in printed form. |
This template should be applied to images of currency.
When uploading images of currency, editors should take care to understand the copyright status of the currency designs. Currency often falls into its own category for copyright, and the rules of thumb for evaluating public domain and fair use claims for artistic works may not apply.
This template should be used as follows :
- {{Ir-Money|circulating=yes}} for currently circulating currency.
- {{Ir-Money|circulating=no}} for currency that has been withdrawn.
If the 'currency' design is exceptionally old (such as ancient coins) then this tag should not be used, and an appropriate 'art' license applied.
Some jurisdictions that apply special copyright rules to currency include:
- Ireland: all currency designs are presumed to be under copyright and require a fair use rationale.[1][2]
- Singapore: the copyrights in currency designs are owned by the Government of Singapore and will only enter the public domain after 70 years have passed since the end of the calendar year in which the work was first made or published. For details, see the usage notes at "commons:Category:Banknotes of Singapore" and "commons:Category:Coins of Singapore".
