<!-- PLEASE ADD CATEGORIES AND INTERWIKIS AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE -->

This template is used to generate external links to catalog records at the United States [[National Archives and Records Administration]] by Online Public Access (OPA) number. See the [https://www.archives.gov/research/search/help/using-opa.html NARA OPA page] for information on OPA.
===Usage===
The '''required''' parameter is the National Archives identifier. If this is the only parameter specified, the article title is used as the [[anchor text]]:
<pre>
{{NARA catalog record|ID}}
</pre>
To have the anchor text be something other than the article name, specify the second parameter, as well:
<pre>
* {{NARA catalog record|ID|Title}}
</pre>
This can be used when the Wikipedia page name is not the name of the work whose catalog record is desired. This will most often be the case where the article name includes a parenthetical disambiguation.
===Examples===
UPDATE THIS WITH A RELEVANT EXAMPLE - THIS IS FROM THE LOC TEMPLATE FOR REFERENCE
;Without specifying the title, causing the article name to be used:
In the article [[United States Bill of Rights]]:
:* <tt><nowiki>{{NARA catalog record|1408042}}</nowiki></tt>
will produce:
:* ''[//research.archives.gov/description/1408042 United States Bill of Rights]'' at the [[National Archives and Records Administration]]
;Specifying the title, rather than using the article name:
In the article [[United States Bill of Rights]] :
:* <tt><nowiki>{{NARA catalog record|1408042|Bill of Rights}}</nowiki></tt>
will produce:
:* ''[//research.archives.gov/description/1408042 Bill of Rights]'' at the [[National Archives and Records Administration]]
Note that the examples include the "<tt>*</tt>" for a bulleted list since this is most likely to be used in an "External links" section.
===Detailed instructions===
# Go to [//research.archives.gov/search OPA search page] to search for the work of interest.
# Select the desired work from the list returned. This will present you with a "Archival Description" for the work.
# Use the National Archives identifier as in one of the examples above.
