The term Narrative Engine was coined by Mads Lunau of Østerskov Efterskole. It implies a set of tools and guidelines used to drive the scenario forward without the need for active direction or a traditional script. The presence of a well-developed narrative engine that operates under a high level of uncertainty is a factor that distinguishes LARP from other narrative artforms and forms of role-play.
