Sarah Lynne Bowman (Ph.D.) is a role-playing games scholar, designer, and organizer. She teaches as adjunct faculty in English, Communication, and Humanities for several institutions including Austin Community College. She received her B.S. from the University of Texas at Austin in Radio-TV-Film in 1998 and her M.A. from the same department in 2003. Bowman graduated with her Ph.D. in Arts and Humanities from the University of Texas at Dallas in 2008. McFarland Press published her dissertation in 2010 as The Functions of Role-playing Games: How Participants Create Community, Solve Problems, and Explore Identity. Bowman has served as an editor for The Wyrd Con Companion Book since 2012 and is a Coordinating Editor for the International Journal of Role-playing. She was the lead organizer for the Living Games Conference 2016, served on several committees for Living Games 2018, and helped coordinate the Role-playing and Simulation in Education Conference in 2016 and 2018.
